Installation of the Wave Valve™

Commercial buildings can experience more than simple water flow inside their plumbing systems. Entrained air, pressure variation and changing flow conditions can all affect how water moves through a building. The Wave Valve™ is FluidLytix’s patented commercial water-efficiency technology designed to address those conditions at the building level.

Installed on the customer side of the water meter, the Wave Valve™ creates controlled hydraulic conditions that compress entrained air, stabilize downstream pressure and improve flow conditions, without replacing fixtures or requiring occupants to change how they use water. For qualifying properties, those changes can translate into lower metered water use and reduced water and sewer costs.

What is the Wave Valve™?

The Wave Valve™ is a stainless-steel, spring-controlled flow-conditioning device developed specifically for commercial water systems.

Unlike fixture-based conservation products, the Wave Valve™ works at the main water line, allowing it to influence conditions throughout the building.

It is:

  • Patented under U.S. Patent 8,944,098 B1

  • Manufactured by FluidLytix in the USA

  • Constructed from 316L stainless steel

  • Adjustable for property-specific operating conditions

  • Designed for commercial, multifamily, hospitality, restaurant, institutional and industrial applications

  • Backed by a 15-year limited warranty

The Wave Valve™ is the original technology invented by Juan Carlos Bocos Sr. and Juan Carlos Bocos Jr. and manufactured by FluidLytix.

How does the Wave Valve™ work?

The Wave Valve™ changes hydraulic conditions within the building’s water line.

1. Water enters the building

Real-world water systems can contain both liquid water and small amounts of entrained air.

2. The Wave Valve™ creates a controlled pressure differential

Its internal design and adjustable spring create controlled resistance in the line.

This can increase pressure within the conditioned zone upstream of the valve while maintaining consistent, usable pressure downstream.

3. Entrained air is compressed

Water is effectively incompressible under normal building conditions. Air is not.

When pressure increases, entrained air occupies less volume.

4. Flow conditions are stabilized

The Wave Valve™ also helps moderate pressure fluctuations and changing flow conditions within the system.

The result is a more controlled hydraulic environment throughout the conditioned portion of the line.

The Wave Valve™ is not a pressure-reducing valve

This distinction is important. A traditional pressure-reducing valve, or PRV, is designed primarily to lower and regulate downstream water pressure to protect plumbing systems and fixtures.

The Wave Valve™ has a different purpose. It is designed to:

  • condition flow

  • compress entrained air

  • stabilize downstream operating pressure

  • reduce pressure fluctuations

  • support more consistent hydraulic conditions

A PRV and a Wave Valve™ can exist in the same plumbing system because they perform different jobs. The Wave Valve™ should not be described as a replacement for a PRV.

Why meter technology matters

Not every property has the same savings opportunity. The type of water meter serving the property can affect how strongly two-phase flow conditions influence registered consumption.

Older positive-displacement and mechanical meters may be more sensitive to entrained air and changing flow conditions. Newer magnetic and ultrasonic meters are generally more tolerant of two-phase flow and may therefore present a smaller opportunity from air compression alone.

That is one reason FluidLytix evaluates properties individually rather than assuming the same result for every building.

What properties are a good fit?

The Wave Valve™ is designed primarily for larger commercial water systems, including:

Important factors include water consumption, meter technology, water and sewer rates, building pressure and existing conservation measures.

Properties with unusually low incoming pressure may not be appropriate candidates, which is why FluidLytix reviews operating conditions before installation.

Does the Wave Valve™ require fixture changes?

No. The Wave Valve™ works at the building level and does not require replacing toilets, faucets, showerheads or other fixtures.

It can work alongside existing conservation measures such as:

  • low-flow fixtures

  • irrigation controls

  • cooling-system optimization

  • leak detection

  • water-management programs

The objective is not to change how residents, guests, employees or customers use water.

How long does installation take?

A Wave Valve™ is installed on the property side of the water meter by a qualified installer. For many installations, the required water shut-off is typically under one hour per valve, depending on site conditions and piping configuration. FluidLytix coordinates sizing and installation requirements based on the individual property.

What results can a property expect?

The average water costs savings across all types of properties is around 20%. There is no single savings percentage that applies to every building. FluidLytix evaluates each property individually based on factors such as:

  • historical water use

  • water and sewer rates

  • meter technology

  • building pressure

  • pipe size

  • operating conditions

  • existing efficiency measures

Published FluidLytix case studies document water-cost reductions across hospitality, multifamily, restaurant and commercial properties. For example, The Gates Hotel South Beach in Miami Beach reported a 20.7% average reduction in total water utility cost following its Wave Valve™ installation.

The best way to estimate the opportunity at a specific property is to review its actual utility data.

How are results measured?

FluidLytix compares post-installation property data with pre-installation usage and cost information.

Where appropriate, the analysis can account for variables such as:

  • seasonal differences

  • occupancy

  • rate changes

  • abnormal billing periods

  • major operational changes

The goal is to evaluate performance using the property’s own data rather than relying only on generalized assumptions.

Why authenticity matters

The Wave Valve™ name refers to the patented technology invented by Juan Carlos Bocos Sr. and Juan Carlos Bocos Jr. and manufactured by FluidLytix.

FluidLytix is the original and sole manufacturer of the Wave Valve™.

Authentic Wave Valve™ products are supplied directly through FluidLytix and its authorized dealer, distributor and installer network.

Wave Valve™ and smarter commercial water management

The Wave Valve™ is one part of a broader water-management strategy.

Commercial properties can combine building-level efficiency with other measures such as leak detection, fixture efficiency, irrigation management and ongoing utility analysis.

FluidLytix also offers FlowLytix™, its water-intelligence technology designed to help identify meaningful changes in water behavior earlier. Different water problems require different tools.

See what your property could save

Every building is different. FluidLytix can review your recent water bill, meter information and property conditions to determine whether the Wave Valve™ is appropriate and prepare a property-specific savings analysis.
